A chance to meet some of the finest poets in North-East Scotland

Come along to Union Square on Saturday afternoon to hear readings with a Valentine's Day theme from a wide range of North-East Scotland's most talented poets.

Poets appearing will include Sheena Blackhall, the North-East's own Makar, amongst other published poets and members of local writing groups.

The readings will be scheduled for set times during the afternoon, and in between you can meet and chat with the poets, maybe even get a little help writing your own Valentine poem if you feel so inspired.

2pm

Keith Murray, Elizabeth Reinach and Alan Young: readings from Love Poems for Valentines, a new anthology compiled for Valentine's Day by local publisher Malfranteaux Concepts.

2.30pm

Roger Barnett and Doirena Culloty: two writers from the regular monthly poetry event Poetry Aberdeen.

3pm

Sheena Blackhall: appointed Aberdeen and North-East Scotland's Makar in 2009.

3.30pm

Gráinne Smith and Mark Pithie: two of the poets featured in Kelly's Cats, the latest publication from Lemon Tree Writers.

4pm

John Mackie and Bryony Harrower: John's previous collaborators have ranged from David Bowie to Howard Skempton — today he is appearing with one of the younger stars of the Aberdeen poetry scene, whose first collection was published last year.

4.30pm

Maureen Ross and Haworth Hodgkinson: representing Huntly Writers, two poets known for combining their words with music, dance and visual arts.

5pm

Gerard Rochford, Moira Brown and Jim Murphy: a second selection of readings from Love Poems for Valentines, the new Valentine's Day anthology.

Presented by North East Writers in association with Union Square.
